Clara celebrated her birthday again with a party at Grandma Jane’s and Papa Nick’s house back home. The weather wasn’t the greatest, with an overcast sky, light mist, and cool temps, but it could have been a lot worse. Leon roasted a whole pig and everybody gorged themselves on food and cake. Grandma Jane made a beautiful sheet cake decorated with Smurfette for the guests, and Clara got her very own little butterfly cake. At first she just stared at it, then tried the frosting and decided it was yummy, and dug in with both hands. She got some great new outfits, books, and toys. Her favorite toy seems to be the plastic mower from the Batz’s. We set off fireworks as soon as the sun went down. Clara was so tired that I laid her down in the pack-n-play in the middle of the fireworks display and she didn’t make a sound. She is sound asleep early tonight, exhausted from all the fun.
